Five or six years ago, I was visiting Agust Sigurdsson, the chief breeding advisor for Iceland. We were talking about how a person could go about improving his herd of horses. Agust is a practical guy. He, along with a brother, owned the farm well known for producing the highest rated mare to date in Iceland, Rauðetta fra Kirkubæ. He holds a PhD from the University of Sweden. He speaks good English. He is a family man who loves more than anything to ride horses with his kids. My question for him was, How do you go about improving your horses without just starting over with better ones.

Fresh Water for Less Money (11/17/08)
We all recognize the need to keep our horses hydrated in the winter. This is made easier with electric stock tank water heaters, but they use quite a bit of electricity. My three hundred gallon tank has used a 1500 watt heater for several years. I kept a foam insulated cover over it to reduce radiation. It has a cutout for the horse to put his mouth through.
